Life experience often serves to sharpen a songwriter and authors edge and provide them with a more colorful palette to draw from when creating images with their music and words. Though she’s only 29-years old, Lacey has lived a lot of life and those experiences—some challenging and others exhilarating—enrich her perspective and create her heartfelt words through writing, worship and communicating.
“We live in a world full of organized chaos and pain, but that pain will lessen. At the beginning it may be hard to see. It seem’s as if we only see our pain at it’s worst and hold the belief it will never cease. The nature of pain changes. Have you ever watched the sun set on a summer night? At first, it’s blindly radiant with red-pinkish and orange portraits of colors in the sky, and then it starts fading, and softening.
I often use this metaphor when counseling clients with complex trauma. The texture of pain changes as you work through it. And then one day you wake up and realize that life isn’t just about working through the cause of the pain, it’s about living too. It’s about living in the beauty of wonder and rest in the Father’s arms through intimacy.
In the time leading up to writing entires for “The Invitation” Lacey has experienced both indescribable joy and unimaginable depression. Loss and gain, side by side. Yet, through it all, she’s found God to be inextricably faithful because she’s learned to trust in the goodness of the Father and the beautiful, unseen ways He tends to our hearts.
“Everyone who’s walked through dark seasons of life realizes God was up to something in the midst of our brokenness and questions. He never promised that it would be easy or that it would be pain-free, but that He would never leave us or forsake us,” Lacey offers, adding, “I’m more aware of His presence than I think I’ve ever been. God has surrounded me with things that will be life-giving if I take a moment to realize it. God’s always at work in our lives. He truly does go before us and prepares the way for the journey ahead.”
Today, Lacey continues to discover restoration through glimpses of God’s goodness. “The healing that He’s been bringing into my life and the way that He’s met me in brokenness, it’s made me realize how many people are going through really intense pain and disappointments and trials,” Lacey offers. “There’s a lot of people who I have sat with on a daily basis who have walked through really traumatic experiences, experienced loss, disappointment, low-self worth, suicidal thoughts, hopelessness, rejection, depression and anxiety. My eyes have been opened to that in a whole new way to what vulnerability coupled with empathy and compassion look like.”
Lacey has such a desire to go to war for people’s lives and to see them overcome the enemy through their worship and through declarations of who God is. She desires to see breakthrough for every person she ministers to. “I want each person to see that God is good! I believe declaring God’s word in the midst of uncertainty, pain even when things are good, invites a beautiful transformative life changing encounter as true son’s and daughters. “
